Fresh Prince vs Martin

In the mid 90′s there were some really great black sitcoms in Hollywood. Two of which were The Fresh prince of Bel-Air and Martin. The debate still carries on today on which of these sitcoms were better. Fresh prince of Bel Air focused more on prejudice and racism amongst blacks and whites. While Martin focused on life in the hood, with characters such as Shenanay and Brother man.  Fresh Prince of Bel Air may win this based on intro alone.  A young Will Smith pulls up to a mansion in Bel Air hopping out of a cab rapping about being raised in the rough neighborhood of West Philadelphia.  Martin also has a great intro with the repetitive but almost annoying “Martiiin duh duh duh.”  The Fresh Prince vs Martin will be a debate for the ages, especially as we move towards more reality tv.  Since the emergence of reality television, really well written sitcoms have been few and far between.  The experienced actor being replaced by your everyday fuck up.

When asked about the comparison, Jersey Demic reacted by saying, “Both are really great shows but I feel like the contrast between the characters on The Fresh Prince of Bel air is what made it great.  You had people in the same scene who had to business even being on the same planet.  The reactions between the two or three people is what made it so funny.  It also showed a side of us where you could be street but not dangerous.  Will played the character perfectly, and at the time I saw a lot of myself in Will.  He was smart, funny, athletic, and cared about the people around him.  Those are probably the best combinations of qualities for anyone to have.  As far as Martin goes, the show was funny because of a lot of the things that Martin said.  However, characters like Cole came off as a little to unbelievable for me.  The interaction between Martin and Pam was hilarious.  Personally I go with Fresh Prince all day everyday.  It’s a close one but Will gets it.”
